Argentine Machete / Bolo made in Germany in 1909, Modelo Argentino 1909 Short
Sword or Machete, manufactured by Weyersberg Kirschbaum and
Company of Solingen, Germany. Massive and hard to find military issue jungle machete with
matching numbered scabbard and a full Argentine crest on the
blade. Used by the Argentine Elite Commando Force or Argentine Artillery.
Matching serial number sword and
scabbard F00536, blade was still in its protective coating. We
cleaned off the coating to grade the quality and make the photo. It has
not been sharpen and I do not think it has ever been used
because there is no cutting edge. It is ready for sharpening and
you can put a fine edge on this old Solingen carbon steel blade
that is 1/4" thick. Wood grips, affixed with two rivets, have no cracks and are in
Excellent plus or better condition. Pommel is marked with an RA in a circle.
Includes leather belt frog and paper about machete.
100 year old antique machete - 1909-2009
Overall length in scabbard is 20-5/8"; overall length out of scabbard is
20"; blade length is 14-3/4". Near mint or Excellent
plus condition overall; some
dark oxide on hilt pommel (most is on the back side) and cross-guard (see image), but no
obvious pitting; should polish out just fine. There is a line
running most of the blade where it has rubbed on the metal sheath
because going in and out of the sheath. It is some type of
holding stop or indent to make sure the blade stays in the
sheath but is not hard to remove when you want. You can see it
in the photo near the top of the back of the blade. Some surface
oxidation on scabbard throat where leather belt frog had been.
Several small indentions on metal scabbard
and it maintains 85% to 90% of its original bluing. Very well
done! This is not a bayonet.
