Texas Ranger Bowie
mint with original wood display box made in the USA. It is 10-1/4" overall and features a
scimitar shaped false edge 440 forged stainless steel blade with Wessonwood
handle. The handle has the Texas Ranger
Commemorative Commission seal inlaid.
It is dated 1973 which was the 150th anniversary of the Texas
Ranges. It is model 6010 Bowie in the S&W line.
The first Smith &
Wesson Texas Ranger Bowie, made in 1973
It is one of the original and first S&W
knives which came out in the early 1970's. It is stamped TEXAS RANGERS
1823-1973 on the blade as seen in the first photo below. The box is mint with
several small marks.
The box has the Texas Ranger Commemorative Commission seal on top.
Smith & Wesson brought out the Texas
Ranger Bowie Commemorative in 1973 that was designed by John Wilson and R.G. Jinks. The Texas Ranger Bowie was the
first knife made by Smith & Wesson.
Then the next Smith & Wesson
knives were designed by Blackie Collins and came out in 1974 and were
discontinued when the second group came out in 1980.
* In celebration of the 150th anniversary
of the Rangers in 1973, the State Legislature creates the Texas Ranger
Commemorative Commission with the goal of raising funds to build a Texas
Ranger Hall of Fame at the Texas Ranger museum in Waco.
The facility was dedicated in 1976 and as
the Official Texas State Hall of Fame for the Texas Rangers and renamed
The Texas Ranger Hall of Fame and Museum.

It is worth the trip to Waco, Texas to go through the Texas Ranger
Hall of Fame and Museum. They have several original 1800's English Bowie
knives that are worth the trip just to see them. Highly recommended!
