They are some of the ultimate items to add your collection.
Al Mar was working for an industrial design firm
in Los Angeles in 1967. Gerber's first designer retired about this
time and Al Mar joined Gerber Legendary Blades in 1967 or 68
(American Blade magazine Dec. 1976) after Pete Gerber gave Al the
task of coming up with an aluminum handle for a kitchen knife. Pete
Gerber thought the project was very successful and offered Al the
position of design chief. Did you know that Al is credited with
designing the Gerber Mark I.
He left Gerber in 1979 to start Al Mar Knives and he died in October of 1992. Al was 54 years old. The new owners have now discontinued most of the original models and moved to other makers on the remaining models. This leaves the knives made while Al was in control of the company very desirable and collectible! Mar is Chinese for horse.

Al Mar cigar and is the one on the bottom
center in the photo above. It is mint with paper ring
around the cigar in plastic wrap. The paper ring has AMK and the red logo.
The cigar is 6-1/2" by 3/4". A great addition for the Havana Clipper by Al Mar
but much harder to find. Perfect for any cigar aficionado or Al Mar collector.
I think it is has a shape known as the parejo, which
has a cylindrical body, straight sides, one end open, and a round cap on
the other end which is either snipped off before smoking or a small hole
is punched in the center of the end.
- Lonsdale (6-1/2" x 42)
- Grand Corona (6-1/2" x 46)
- Torpedo (6-1/2" x 52)
- Ring Gauge - The diameter
of a cigar's barrel, expressed in 64ths of an inch. A 32 ring is 32/64"
(1/2"), for example.
-
We have one (1) for sale.
- We do not know if it is a great cigar but we do know it
is unique. How many Al Mar cigars have you seen?
