2.  Question: Will I get a better location on your different pages if I purchase Tier 1 impressions over the lower Tier rates?

Answer: Tier 1 does give you a guaranteed placement for as long as you have banners to show. At this level you can not be bumped down or removed until your banner impressions have all been shown. Your banners will be seen first before all others except KWG site Sponsors. If you want the maximum amount of banners shown in a limited or fixed time period, like a one day sale, you need to purchase Tier 1 impressions.

Our goal is to show more relevant ads because
everyone likes ads that are more relevant.

Banners are shown in fixed locations or zones on different pages and regions within the KWG. Our network shows banners each time a page is loaded and each day there are different amount of page views based on the daily traffic. By having different Tiers with different prices we are trying to keep our network showing as many banner impressions as possible. Our goal is to show more relevant ads because everyone likes ads that are more relevant.

If there are no advertisers using a banner location or zone we are not receiving the maximum revenue each time a page is loaded. So we would rather take a smaller amount of money from a lower Tier rate than not sell any ad inventory. Once a page is loaded we cannot sell ad space on that page again as it is lost until the next time the page is loaded. Therefore we will always let you know if a lower Tier is available at the time you place your ad order. That way we will keep our network working at its full capacity and you will be able to purchase ad space at the lowest rate we have at any given time.

3.  Question: Can any one advertise in the KWG?

Answer: No. Space is reserved for knife, sword, cutlery-related and outdoor advertisements only and is offered to a limited number of advertisers. If your site deals with any of the below it is welcome!

  • All custom and hand made knife, sword and cutlery makers are welcome to advertise.
  • All knife, sword, cutlery and related accessory manufacturers are welcome to advertise such as sharpeners, sheaths, displays and more.
  • All outdoor related fields and items are welcome to advertise such as camping, backpacking, hiking, skiing, climbing, cycling, kayaking, canoeing, snowboarding, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, off road vehicles, hunting, fishing and more.
  • Knife Web Guide reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to determine whether sites may advertise in the Knife Web Guide network and to decline non industry related or inappropriate advertisements. The same goes for Link Partner, Multi-category listing, Category Sponsor on theme-category page, Banner Programs, Advertorials and Microsites. All the different ways we have to advertise are subject to availability. The only fair way to sell banners and location is to a limited amount of advertisers and on a first come first served system.

We do not have a place in the Knife Web Guide for true wholesale such as distributors and jobbers. We designed the KWG for the customer to find what they are looking for, not for the dealer to find a new source or distributor.

5.  Question: When was the Knife Web Guide started?

Answer: The Guide was started the last week in October 2000 and the first version of the Guide was debuted on CutlersCove.com site the first week of November 2000. The Guide's domain name KnifeWebGuide.com was registered on Oct. 20, 2000.

Knife Web Guide™ will remain in flux as it grows, adjusting to new technology, new demands and more readers.

6.  Question: Can I use a different banner size than the ones you offer?

Answer: No not normally. With the banner delivery system we use it has a set size for each banner in each location and region for every page in the network. Click here for the banner sizes to choose from.

Because we use standard banner sizes you will save money on the production costs to make your creatives and this should allow you to use your creatives in any compliant avenue or web site. If a larger size is added to a location the delivery system will cut off the over size. Smaller sizes work fine sometimes. We will need to test what you have.

Banner size specifications are compliant with IAB/CASIE standards. Internet Advertising Bureau (IAB) and the Coalition for Advertising Supported Information (CASIE).

In order to use another banner size we would need to change each page that banner size would show on. Plus each page would need to accommodate the new banner size in the page layout. It can be done but an advertiser would be required to pay for all the changes and update before a different size ad could be delivered.

13.  Question: What is an impression and how is it counted?

Answer: An impression is made each time a banner or creative is called. Every time a request is made of the server for an advertisement an impression is made and counted. This is how our ad management software measures impressions.

The ad presence is on the page for the visitor's entire time spent on that page. We do not rotate the ad while the customer is on the page only when they go to a different page or reload the same page.

14.  Question: Why can't I see any of your banner ads? I have Norton Internet Security and Firewall, is that stopping your ads?

Answer: Norton Internet Security and Firewall are blocking many affiliate links, ad banners, AdWords, Adsense and even text links. It may even be blocking your own site logo or your family pictures if they are a certain image size. Click here for more details.

Is this unfair restraint of trade and improper censorship
as well as malicious altering of Web sites?

15.  Question: Why don't you allow anyone to advertise on the KWG?

Answer: The content of the KWG is focused and relevant to a narrow audience and we want that group to find information and resources that they can use. We want them to come back to the KWG because they know they will only find subject-specific, context-related information and resources in the KWG. We also hope they will tell their friends and colleagues about how the KWG helped them.

If you have a advertising campaign that you think will benefit our audience but it is outside the knife, sword, cutlery-related and outdoor areas talk to us. We will always look at your proposal.

16.  Question: How often can I change my banners that are showing in the KWG network?

Answer: We will be happy to change out any banner with a different one and we will try to complete the change in 24 hours or less. All you need to do is let us know which banner and when to change. We will need a approved replacement banner before we can make the change.

You can send us an email or call and we will make the update. After the change we will send you an email notice that it has been completed. There is no charge for this service and is included in your advertising campaign purchase.

28. Is the KWG a good place for my business to advertise? Will I get my moneys worth?

Answer: Contextual advertising is when ads are delivered based on the content of a web page that's being viewed, usually in an automated or semi-automated manner. What the KWG does is broaden this concept with a web site environment that is focused only on limited themes. This way each page in the website is dealing with a related subject, theme or category but only in the narrow fields of knives, swords or cutlery.

Advertisers may have concerns about whether ads will convert well that are displayed on our network. Think about whom is coming to our site called the Knife Web Guide. Some consumers may be in “search mode”, such as when they read an article about a particular topic and then see a paid listing that seems to offer an answer to that topic. However, others may be in "browse mode", where they check out a paid listing more out of curiosity rather than to fulfill a particular desire. Will browsers convert as well as searchers?

There is a big opportunity in advertising with KWG.
Give us a try!

We believe browsers are converting as well as searchers because of the focused nature of the KWG. Plus you can try the advertising in the KWG for the small amount of around $40 and see for yourself. Don't let the small amount make you think it is not possible to get big results advertising in the KWG. Testimonials from Advertisers, Sponsors and Link Partners

29. What is marketing?

30. What is advertising?

Answer: Advertising is public promotion of something: the promotion through public announcements in newspapers or on the radio, television, or Internet of something such as a product, service, event, or vacancy in order to attract or increase interest in it.

The Internet is the fastest growing of all media today. The promotional benefit of using the Internet is still growing and maturing but it is on the way up and climbing fast.

Advertising also supplies most of the operating funds of the principal communications media. According to an authoritative survey, the radio and television industry depends on advertising for all its revenue. Metropolitan newspapers derive about 70 percent of their income from advertising, and national magazines, some 60 percent.

These rankings are measured each year by Advertising Age, an advertising trade magazine, and seldom vary, although Internet advertising continues to grow significantly. In the first half of 2005, ad spending on the Internet increased 26 percent, far greater than the 4.5 percent growth for the entire advertising market.

Future Below from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

With the dawn of the Internet have come many new advertising opportunities. Popup, Flash, banner, advergaming, and email advertisements (the last often being a form of spam) abound.

Each year, greater sums are paid to obtain a commercial spot during the Super Bowl. Companies attempt to make these commercials sufficiently entertaining that members of the public will actually want to watch them.

Particularly since the rise of "entertaining" advertising, some people may like an advert enough that they wish to watch it later or show a friend. In general, the advertising community has not yet made this easy, although some have used the Internet to widely distribute their adverts to anyone wishing to see or hear them.

Another significant trend to note for the future of advertising is the growing importance of niche or targeted ads. Also brought about by the Internet and the theory of The Long Tail, advertisers will have an increasing ability to reach narrow audiences. In the past, the most efficient way to deliver a message was to blanket the largest mass market audience possible. However, usage tracking, customer profiles and the growing popularity of niche content brought about by everything from blogs to social networking sites, provides advertisers with audiences that are smaller but much better defined, leading to ads that are more relevant to viewers and more effective for companies marketing products.

31. How can I improve my click through rate and increase sales?

Answer: Targeted ad messages on your banners let buyers know exactly what items you have for sale before they click on your ad. This further qualifies your clicks and helps make sure the right people are clicking. Specific ad descriptions are more likely to yield a sale. Be to the point.

Driving qualified buyers directly to a specific section of your web store or directly to an item for sale is the most effective way to convert clicks into sales - this helps focus your buyer’s attention on exactly what they are looking for so they don’t navigate away from your website, category or item for sale.

Linking your ad to a website is most effective for driving heavy traffic to your site; however, this linking option encourages buyers to browse. Clicks from this type of ad do not convert to sales as well as more targeted URLs.

32. How do I set up a advertising campaign budget that works?

Answer: Because each advertiser is unique in the market, it is difficult to suggest a budget amount. However, here are a few tips to consider when determining your budget. Your budget is contingent on your advertising strategy. For example, if you adopt a broad branding strategy, you would need a larger budget to support clicks for general ad messages. However, if you adopt a more targeted approach and create specific ad messages based on a targeted URL, you will get more focused results.

33. What is rich media?

Answer: Rich media is the term used to describe a broad range of interactive digital media that exhibit dynamic motion, taking advantage of enhanced sensory features such as video, audio and animation. The term is used to describe widely varying technologies and implementations and an exact definition is elusive.

When online advertising is described as "rich media" it generally is understood to mean any creative unit which includes user interaction or which uses Macromedia Flash. Examples of non-rich media advertising include standard images (gif, jpeg, etc.), text links and search engine advertising. This definition is clearly imprecise.

Rich media has become a dominant force in online display advertising. According to the most recent data available, over 40% of display advertising (by impressions) is rich media, and this is expected to rise over time.

34. Where will my banner be shown in the Knife Web Guide?

Answer: Click here for Knife Web Guide Region and Zones which has all the details.

Specific page advertising is available on many pages. Be sure to check to see if the Category Sponsor is available for the page you are interested in.

The cost to show your banner on a specific theme page and not the other pages that make up the KWG is shown here.

35. Why do my web site statistics not match KWG's reports?

Answer: There are always discrepancies when comparing server statistics, particularly when it comes to advertising. Factors such as repeat views, local caches, ad blockers or users quickly leaving a page can cause differing statistics. For the purposes of impressions and click throughs, KWG data is the only one to be considered.

If you would like to pay for a third party audit of the site we would be more than happy to allow that to happen. We must approve the third party auditor and after we approve them we will do our best to help in any way they ask to make the audit a success.

36. Do my banner ads show in the Media Kit area?

38. We have been asked how good our advertising is compared to Google and others.

With most other companies such as Google and Yahoo your ad is searching for the audience that will purchase your product or service. With KnifeWebGuide.com we already have your audience. Because we only target the knife, sword and cutlery guest as our primary audience. Our secondary audience includes the hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, outdoors, cooking and military guest.

Give us a try. You will be glad you did.

40. Will advertising increase my chances of making sales?

Yes.

Of course we cannot guarantee that your items will sell, but a Category Sponsor exposes your product or service to thousands knife, sword and cutlery enthusiasts per month. If the product or service is of good quality, it will undoubtedly catch someone’s eye.
Empirical evidence shows that Category Sponsors
are almost 10 times more likely to sell! Considering the increased exposure and the relatively low up-front investment required, it can be a prudent strategy to feature your entire portfolio of products if we have a category for you to purchase a Category Sponsor. At only $40 to start with your Category Sponsor or banner, you only need one good sale to more than recoup the total initial investment.
